Our Solar System has been a popular topic at Pinetree this month! It began in early September. The children were playing outside and I sat with several children on the mat as we looked up at the clouds. One child suddenly said “there are no stars when the Sun is out”. I agreed with him and asked him why he thinks that is. He said he didn’t know! Since then, I’ve been looking for ways to include learning about our solar system in their play. We have read stories, played solar system games, made telescopes, drawn pictures, and even printed the names of each planet – and we’re not done yet! Hopefully by the end of this year, the children will have a better understanding of Earth and the planets surrounding it.
